Bali, 7/11/2018 – President of China Film Group Corporation, Le Kexi stated that Indonesia and China have opportunities to establish a number of cooperation. This?cooperation can be implemented with co-production between the two countries.
“This co-production covers a wide range starting from making films to be aired in both countries, exchange visits through film festivals, constructing commercial theater buildings with advanced technology, promoting Chinese digital cinema to rural areas in Indonesia, and joint training on film industry,” said Le Kexi in World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2018 at Bali Plenary Hall in Nusa Dua, Bali, Wednesday (7/11).
Le also shared his experience on how film industry in China managed to increase its profits. China, he said, uses film as a means to promote cultural exchange. The profits of China’s box office increased by 10 percent in 2017 to USD7.9 billion. The number of moviegoers, on the other hand, increased by 7 percent to almost 1.5 billion people.
“We hope that the two countries can work together and collaborate to improve film industry,” said Le Kexi.
China’s total number of cinema reached 9,300 with total cinema screens reached 58,000,and 1.62 billion moviegoers. This made China to be ranked first globally. In five years, the number of moviegoers and screens is projected to increase by 20 percent. The quality of Chinese films is increasing because of the diverse genres.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that film as a sub-sector of creative economy grew by 10.09 percent in 2016 in Indonesia.
Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy specified film industry, animation and video as one of the leading subsectors due to their multiplier effect.
The World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) is the first international conference to discuss the creative economy. The event held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) on 6—8 November carries the theme Inclusively Creative by raising five main issues, namely social cohesion, regulation, marketing, ecosystems, and financing of the creative industry.
The event is attended by representatives from more than 30 countries and more than 1,500 participants. WCCE 2018 will also formulate Bali Declaration which will be proposed to the UN General Assembly next year. This is expected to further strengthen the ecosystem and support the development of the world’s creative economy that has entered the era of 4.0.(mm
