Le Kexi Opens Opportunities for Indonesian and Chinese Film Cooperation

Bali, 7/11/2018 – President of China Film Group Corporation, Le Kexi stated that Indonesia and China have opportunities to establish a number of cooperation. This?cooperation can be implemented with co-production between the two countries.

“This co-production covers a wide range starting from making films to be aired in both countries, exchange visits through film festivals, constructing commercial theater buildings with advanced technology, promoting Chinese digital cinema to rural areas in Indonesia, and joint training on film industry,” said Le Kexi in World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2018 at Bali Plenary Hall in Nusa Dua, Bali, Wednesday (7/11).

Le also shared his experience on how film industry in China managed to increase its profits. China, he said, uses film as a means to promote cultural exchange. The profits of China’s box office increased by 10 percent in 2017 to USD7.9 billion. The number of moviegoers, on the other hand, increased by 7 percent to almost 1.5 billion people.

“We hope that the two countries can work together and collaborate to improve film industry,” said Le Kexi.

China’s total number of cinema reached 9,300 with total cinema screens reached 58,000,and 1.62 billion moviegoers. This made China to be ranked first globally. In five years, the number of moviegoers and screens is projected to increase by 20 percent. The quality of Chinese films is increasing because of the diverse genres.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that film as a sub-sector of creative economy grew by 10.09 percent in 2016 in Indonesia.

Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy specified film industry, animation and video as one of the leading subsectors due to their multiplier effect.

Bali, 7/11/2018 – The Indonesian Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated that inclusive creative economy is the key that contributes to the nation’s economy.

“Creative economy must be great because the creative economy and technology is one of the solutions to economic problems in Indonesia,” Sri Mulyani said when speaking at the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Wednesday (11/7). More than 1,000 people were excited to hear the presentation made by Sri Mulyani.

Sri explained that Indonesia’s GDP grew by 5.27 percent in 2018. Meanwhile the unemployment rate declined from 9.75 percent to 5.19 percent and the poverty rate decreased from 16.38 percent to 9.32 percent.

According to Sri, the world has shifted to a new era, namely the era of digital technology. The presence of internet and the growth of information and communication technology spurred the era of digital technology.

Indonesia, continued Sri, has embarked on the industry 4.0, that is, the industry with internet of things (IoT) and cyber system. The state has a role in supporting the development of fintech for the growth of economy and creative economy. The state formulates policies, provide infrastructure and financing support, as well as cyber protection.

Millennials who have high mobility influence changes in the national economy. For example, the millennials prefer to use online ride hailing applications to buy private vehicles. This provides opportunity for economy actors in Indonesia.

With the development of digital technology, career opportunity in the creative economy sector is increasing. “This phenomenon is not only favorable for the community, but also for the solution of the national economy,” said Sri.

Bali, 11/07/2018 – CreatiVillage exhibition showcases various creative products attracts the participants of World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2018 in Nusa Dua, Bali, 6—8 November 2018.

CreatiVillage features booths named after Islands in Indonesia such as Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Aceh, and Papua to represent the country’s cultural diversity. In these booths, government and private institutions showcases their products. In addition, delegates can also use these booths for small meetings to discuss the creative economy.

The exhibition features various types of brands, such as regional coffee brands, craft, and weaving. Several WCCE participating countries also set up their boothswhich generally display cultural and educational cooperation programs.

Karangasem Bali Booth, for example, attracts visitors for its Salak wine. Visitors are seen lining up in order to get free salak wine. “It tastes amazing and so refreshing,” said Rena, a visitor from Jakarta.

In addition, Karangasem booth was also attended by Karangasem Regent I Gusti Ayu Mas Sumatri. A number of visitors were seen queuing for taking selfie with the Regent.

“I’m so glad that Bekraf hold this event. “Karangasem is taking part in this event to further introduce our region to the international community,” Sumatri said with a smile.

Bekraf Promotes Indonesian Coffee at WCCE 2018

Bali, 11/6/2018 – The Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy (Bekraf) held the  CreatiVillage in a series of event at the World Conference on Creative Economy which took place in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Tuesday to Thursday (6 to 8/11). One of the booth displayed at the Coffee Lounge at CreatiVillage is a farmer, entrepreneur, and coffee barista. M. Aleh from the Marga Mulya Coffee Producers Cooperative (KPK) with the Java Preanger Gunung Tilu brand from Bandung Regency and Hendra Purba from the Tani Namanis Group with the Saabas Coffee brand to fill this booth. In one day (6/11),

Visitors have enjoyed more than 500 cups of coffee. Aleh and Hendra are creative economic player with Bekraf’s community. Both of them admit that they often attend Bekraf events, such as barista training and barista profession certification. Through the event, product promotion and sales of their products increased rapidly. “Good opportunity at this moment. It’s amazing here. When here those who were present did not yet know West Java coffee, now they know. After this there are buyers who are interested. What I’m very proud of is that Bekraf helps me promote. After this event, I fully believe that orders will continue to queue up” said Aleh.

Aleh added that he succeeded in establishing a coffee culture partnership in a coffee shop in Bali. Hendra also emphasized that Bekraf was instrumental in promoting Arabica Coffee from Simalungun, North Sumatra. So, sales also increase. “Everything (coffee) sells on the market. Our promotions efforts are received well. The benefits of the product are increasingly known, and namely sales increase” Hendra said.

Global Center of Excellence for Creative Economy in Indonesia

Bali, 7/11/2018 – Indonesia initiated a global center of excellence for creative economy through the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2018. Indonesia took the initiative with the consideration that creative economy plays a pivotal role in the development of global economy.

“Creative economy contributes significantly to global economy. In 2015, it generated US$ 2,250 billion or around 3% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The industry also employed 1% of the world’s active population,” said Head of the Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy (Bekraf), Triawan Munaf, at the opening of World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2018  in Nusa Dua, Bali, Wednesday (7/11).

Creative Economy is believed to continue to grow and become more inclusive with the support of technological advancements. In line with the development of the world, the national creative economy continues to grow with a contribution of more than 7.4% of Indonesia’s GDP. Around 17 million people work in the creative economy sector or 14% of the total workforce which is dominated by women at 54%.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi emphasized that cooperation is important, especially in creative economy sector. Therefore, the theme “Inclusively Creative” is considered very appropriate because creative economy must not be exclusive and must open up opportunities for everyone.

“Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage has enable us to develop our creative industries, such as fashion, culinary, arts and crafts, as well as entertainment. This has become an anchor for our economy, allowing it to remain strong in the face of economic crisis,” she said.
